TP Interview 004：株式会社i-plug HR&Business Innovation部　矢島慶佑（前編）

会社員・大学院生・地域活性、3つの柱を持つ「パラレルライフ」成功の秘訣とは？

今回インタビューする矢島慶佑氏は、いわゆる「企業内起業」を企てて活躍する会社員でありながら、別の顔を2つ持っているバイタリティ溢れる人物。会社員でありながら「大学院生」であり「地域活性に尽力」する熱い男でもある、矢島氏。
彼はなぜ3つの顔を諦めることなく、バランス良く進めていけるのか？その秘訣に迫ります。

 

矢島慶佑氏プロフィール

2005年学習院大学を卒業後、大手保険会社に入社。12年間在籍中最初の5年間は東京、その後福岡で7年間勤務。2017年1月に退職後、PR会社を経て、現在は新卒採用のプラットフォームを運営する株式会社i-plugにて勤務をしながら、大学院に通いつつ、地域創生の仕事にも取り組んでいる。

 

「地域」にこだわる原点

インタビュアー（夏野）：今のお仕事について教えてください

矢島氏：
今年の7月から、（株）i-plugという会社で働いています。
それ以外でいくと、大学院に昨年の4月から通っていて、そこで地域活性と情報発信の研究を行い、現在は論文を書いています。あとは、副業で地域のPRみたいなことを単発のお仕事として受けたりしています。

 

夏野：そもそも、なぜ地域活性なのでしょう？

矢島氏：
熊本地震の時に、保険会社に所属していたんですが、会社としては保険金を払うことが仕事なので、どんどんお金を払っていって、それで仕事が終わったよねという感じになるんです。しかし現場に行くとまだまだ瓦礫が散乱していて。そのギャップに自分の心を打たれまして。

会社は、「支払いも終わったからそろそろ現地も営業再開だ」、みたいに言ってるんですけど、実際の現場はまだ何も手についていない状況という時に、この仕事で人生最後まで全うしていいのかなと、その時すごく感じました。

もちろんお金を払うことも当然役に立っていると思うんですけど、あと30年くらいこの仕事で終わっていいのかなと。

それ以外にも、福岡にいた時にですね、学生団体と活動をしていて、福岡にある港街に一泊二日で合宿したことがありました。その時、地元の人たちと話す機会がありまして、初対面なのに心を開いていろんなことを話し合うということができて。とても感動したことがありました。

でもその町は、どんどん人が減って、もうすでに統合されて町だったところが市になっています。

 

夏野：なんか寂しいですね。

矢島氏：
そうなんですよ。でもその町も、今ではまた人が増えていて、町の人たちは、町の中でみんないきいきと暮らしている、老人も子供も関係なく。こういうのが日本の良さなんじゃないかな、とすごく自分の中で思いました。

世界の中で誇れるものってなんだろうと思ったときに、これだなと。なので、こういう仕事をしたいなと思うようになった訳です。自分もすごく居心地良かったですし。

 

夏野：それで地域活性への思いが強いのですね。

矢島氏：
そうですね。現在の会社では、企業と学生をつなぐ事業をおこなっているので、それを発展させて、東京に出てきた大学生がUターンやIターンで地域に還流していく仕組みを作っているところです。

社内起業みたいなことをやっている感じですかね。

 

夏野：詳しく聞かせてください。

矢島氏：
私たちは、学生さんと企業をマッチングするプラットフォーム「オファーボックス」を運営しています。
学生が1学年10万人、企業は4600社くらい登録しています。

大手企業ももちろん使っていますが、ニーズが高いのは例えばBtoB企業です。知名度は世の中的にはそれなりにあっても、学生にはなかなか知られていない企業が、学生の認知を取りに行くために、直接学生にメッセージを送ることができる、そういう仕組みを立ち上げてやっています。

中途では普通なのに新卒ではなかなかなかった形をやってまして、これを地域でも同じ仕組みができないかなと。求人票とか学校に送ってるんですけど、なかなか学生がそれを目にする機会もない。実際、「聞いたことのない何とか市に行きたい」とはならないと思うんです。

学生って海外に行きたい子も多いんですけど、一方で、地域でいろんなことやりたいと思っている学生も意外にいたりするんですよ。

 

夏野：そうなんですね！

矢島氏：
大学生のうちにいろんな地域を飛び回ってインターンなどを経験する子が意外にいます。そういう子たちがどこかに行きたいのですが、結局どうすれば良いのか知らないので、地元に帰るか東京で就職するかになってしまっている現実が、学生から聞いていてもありました。

地域も人がほしい、学生も行きたいけどどこに行けばいいかわからないという、その悩みを解決できるプラットフォームとして、私達のプラットフォームの中で、地域版みたいなことができないかということを考えて、事業として立ち上げかけているところです。

ちょうど今、トライアルで、いくつかの自治体が利用し始めるタイミングで、本当に今日明日契約するみたいなそんな状況です。

 

夏野：学生の方も、そういうニーズはあるということなんですけど、学生さん的にはどういう反応ですか？

矢島氏：
それも、これからなんですけど。例えば東京出身の学生が志望勤務地を書く欄に、東京、神奈川、山形と入れている子がいたりするんですよ。

なぜかというと、学生時代にインターンで山形に行った経験や旅行の際に、地元の人に良くしてもらったなどの理由が、心に残っているためのようです。そういう人たちにもう一回、こっちに来ませんか、仕事ありますよとアプローチできたら、もしかしたら、目を向けてくれる可能性もあるかもしれません。

少なくともノーチャンスではない。最初は1人でも2人でもかまいわないので、まずはマッチングができればいいと思っています。

 

大学院生の顔×事業家の顔

夏野：矢島さんは大学で研究をされているとのことですが、それがいまいちピンとこないのですが……。研究は地域の関係なのですよね？

矢島氏：
そうです、それこそ地域活性の中で、やっぱり情報を出すタイミングとか出し方とかによって、アウトプットや与える印象は違うんだよ、という話を私はしたいと思っていて、それを今移住にフォーカスしてやっています。

何でもかんでも、誰でも来てくださいと言ってとにかく大量の広告を打つのではなくて、ペルソナをしっかり決めて、そのペルソナに対して効くコンテンツは何なのか、いつ発信すればいいのかといった戦略をしっかり作って発信するそういうやり方をやりましょう、というのを研究しています。

 

夏野：そういった研究をして、どう発展させていくのでしょうか。

矢島氏：
それはまさに自治体に伝えていって、将来的には自治体へのコンサルティングを通して各自治体にノウハウを蓄積して自走できる様にする、そんな事業の形を作っていければいいなと思っています。

現在の会社では、大学や大学生と仕事をしているんですけど、それが自治体ともつながっていて、今、新しい事業を社内で立ち上げていて、それが今度は研究の方でもつながる。やっていることを辿ると実は、3つ全てがつながるみたいな感じですね。

 

夏野：なるほど。すべてが活きているんですね。

矢島氏：
なので多分3つ4つとやっても、できると思うんです。違うことをやっていそうに見えて全部つながっていますから。

 

パラレルライフな生き方・働き方

夏野：ふだん一週間あったら、どんな働き方・生活スタイルなんですか？

矢島氏：基本的には会社の仕事をやっているんですけど、とはいえ空いている時間を見ながら、休日に地域の仕事を半日でやったりとか、大学院で研究したりとか、いろんなことを今やっています。でも基本は株式会社i-plugです。

 

夏野：パラレルワーカーではなく、パラレルライフみたいなイメージですよね。充実させるためにはどういうことをすればいいと思いますか？

矢島氏：
確かに、パラレルライフですよね（笑）
私もそこまでできているか不安ですけど。なんかその瞬間瞬間は、すごく集中していますし、一方で話をして見えてきたものを横に繋げているところはあります。

例えば、Aという仕事だけだったら、Aの仕事をずっとやっているんですけど、Aの仕事で得た人脈を、Bの仕事でも繋げられるなと感じます。なので、それぞれでしっかりと取り組むことが大事だと思います。

 

夏野：ちなみに矢島さんは、今のようなパラレルな生き方に関して、どういうふうに感じますか？

矢島氏：
もともと私は大企業のサラリーマンだったので、複業なんて考えられなかった。そんなもの、そもそも本当に考えられませんでした。とにかく忙しかったので。

でも（パラレルワーカーではなく、パラレルライフですが）やってみて、もちろん収入は下がりましたけど、すごく充実しています。自分のやりたい仕事や生き方をあっちもこっちもできるので。

 

夏野：なるほど。では、今の軸が1、2、3とあるじゃないですか。それを全部見据えて今後どんなふうにしていきたいと思っていますか？

矢島氏：
どこかの地域に根を張って、そこで地域活性というか、コミュニティを形成していくということをまずやっていきたいです。地域活性と言っている以上、自分でやらないといけないと思っています。それをやりながら学生を還流させていくというのもありますし、今大学院で研究していることのコンサルティング版ができたらと思っています。

そういう形で地域と絡む仕事をしていけたら嬉しいですね。

 

夢を叶えるために、大切にしていること

夏野：一番大切にしていることは何ですか？

矢島氏：
私は人との信頼関係がすごく大事だと思うので、人とのつながりを大事にしています。そのために基本的に全部腹を割って、ちゃんと自ら話をしていくように意識してやっています。

大企業を辞めたときに人間関係が結構壊れまして。サラリーマンとしての私に興味がある人が多くいたんですよ。もう、老若男女問わず。自分はそれが分からずに接していて、所属企業の名前がなくなった瞬間に、私の周りから人がいなくなったんです。

そのときに、「あ、人ってそういう一面があるんだな」と気づきました。そして、今度は個人、一人でやっていくんだなと、ほんとうに個人の魅力がないといけないなと。

だからこそ私は、出会った人たちとのつながり・信頼関係を大事にすることを意識しています。

 

 

パラレルな生き方を楽しむ矢島氏。
