やってきたことの蓄積が人を惹きつけ、カタチとなっていく

 

PR会社、プロモーション会社などでプランナーを経験後、地域×クラウドファンディングサービス「FAAVO」の運営を行なう会社に入社した北山氏。2018年7月には、事業部が株式会社CAMPFIREに丸ごと譲渡されるという経験をしている。

現在は、株式会社CAMPFIREの社員として、クラウドファンディング「FAAVO」の運営などに関わっている同氏に、起業家のための上手なクラウドファンディング活用術について話を聞いた。

「クラウドファンディングは『資金調達の手段』で終わっては、もったいない」
と語る、北山氏の真意に迫る。

 

プロダクトのある人なら、うまく使わない手はないですね。

【インタビュアー：夏野久万】まずは現在の仕事内容について教えてください。

【北山氏】

FAAVOでの、プロジェクト支援、企業連携等の渉外を行なっています。

クラウドファンディングの使い方の相談があった時には「こういう風に使えますよ」とお話もしますし、企業とのアライアンスや企画もやります。

あとサービスの機能に、こんなのあったらいいんじゃないかという話もしますね。

 

【夏野】なるほど。では起業家のクラウドファンディングの上手な使い方について教えてください。

【北山氏】

起業家には、2パターンあると思っています。漠然と起業するパターンと、具体的にアイデアがあってそのために起業するパターン。

どちらかというと後者の人に、クラウドファンディングを使ってほしいと思っています。
最低限のプロダクトはあるけれど、もっと良くしていきたいと模索している方ですね。

これからユーザーを探す状況の時に、クラウドファンディングはとても役に立てると思います。

 

【夏野】たとえば、どんなことでしょうか？

新しい商品・サービスについてユーザーのニーズを調べる手段は、街行く人へのインタビューやモニター調査など、いろいろあります。

クラウドファンディングの場合、それをオンラインでできるんです。
しかも製品評価や期待をオープンに集められます。
そのうえ、結果としてお金まで入ってくるので、得られたフィードバックでさらに製品改良もできるみたいな……。
そう考えると、スタートアップで何らかのプロダクトがあってニーズの検証していく段階にある人にとっては、うまく使わない手がないですよね。

クラウドファンディングは、お金集めの手段として広まっていますが、僕は全然そんなことはないと思っています。お金は結果としてついてくるもの。

どちらかというと、テストマーケティングや、最初のお客さんをどうつくるかみたいなところで使うといいなと思います。むしろそのほうがうまい活用法だなと。それで 化けるプロジェクトがでてきたら世の中に対するクラウドファンディングの印象も変わってくるはずです。

たとえば、海外でヒットして日本のマーケットに参入したい際に、テストマーケティングのツールとして使ってもいいですね。それで売れそうだったら、もっと輸入して売る。在庫を抱えずに試すことができるんです。

 

「本当にやりたいんですか？」と言っちゃいます

【夏野】成功するプロジェクトと、そうではないプロジェクトの違いがよくわかる環境ですよね？　どんな違いがありますか？

【北山氏】

成功しそうなプロジェクトは、

やる人に熱意がありますね。あとはその周りに協力者がいる。

逆に、熱意が感じられなかったり、独りよがり過ぎたりすると心配になります。
あと、（熱意からではなく）「お金ください」から入っちゃうと、見ず知らずの第三者がプロジェクトにお金出してくれるのかな、と心配になることが多々あります。

 

【夏野】そういう場合、どうしますか。

【北山氏】

結構、僕はバッサリいっちゃいます。「本当にやりたいんですか」と（笑）。

 

【夏野】コンサルタント的な要素もありますね。

【北山氏】

たとえるならお金を持ってないファンドマネージャーというか、そんな感じです。
僕らは、お金は出さないけれど口は出すみたいな。（笑）

僕がプロジェクトのサポートをするときは、なぜその人がやりたいのかに興味があるのでよく聞きます。
むしろ、そこをしっかり出してもらった方が良いと思っています。
というのも、「何をやるか」っていうのは、結構、出尽くした感はあります。

たとえば「イベントを開催したい」「こんなコンセプトのメディアを立ち上げたい」もいいのですが、どちらかというと、そのイベントやメディアがなぜやりたくて、どういう経緯でそうなったのかみたいな話しの方が、それぞれ固有のストーリーがあってユニークなので、面白いと思います。

 

【夏野】そうですよね、メディアも乱立してますからね、普通にマーケティングのメディアを作りたいんですって言っても難しそうです。

【北山氏】

（クラウドファンディングを）やってもらう分には全然いいんです。結果を得ることに価値があるとも思うので。
なのでむしろ、

そのプロジェクトがどのくらいはねるのかを見るためにやるのも手です。

でも、どうせやるなら、話を聞く以上はその辺の熱意とか知りたいですよね。何かやりたいことがあってその表現として「メディア」ってことだと思うので。

人を巻き込む方法って、バリエーションがありますよね

【夏野】クラウドファンディングに向いているプロジェクトは、どんなものがありますか？

【北山氏】
基本的に何でも向いていると思います。ジャンルとかカテゴリーで、向き不向きはないですね。

 

【夏野】面白いなと思ったプロジェクトは？

【北山氏】
「湯～園地」というプロジェクトですね。

別府市にお風呂のテーマパークを作ろうという企画です。
なぜ、このプロジェクトがすごいかというと、それをやらざるを得ない状況に追い込んでクラウドファンディングをやったっていうのが、ちょっと面白いなと。

元々の発端が、別府市の市長が温泉のテーマパークの動画を作って、これが100万再生いったら、別府市にある古い遊園地を「温泉テーマパーク」にすると公約したんです。公約したばかりに100万再生軽く突破して、作んなきゃいけなくなって。
でも作るための予算とか何も計画がないので、クラウドファンディングで集まったらやってみようとなったわけです。

公職にある人たちが、公約として掲げたものなので、やらないわけにはいかない。すごい熱意ですよね。
さすがに常設の遊園地まではいかなかったのですが、実際に3日間ちゃんとやって、いろいろなところでニュースになりました。
僕はとくに地域のプロジェクトをたくさん見ているので、こういうプロジェクトが、また起こるといいなと思います。

 

【夏野】このプロジェクトの成功した理由は何と感じましたか？

【北山氏】

やはり熱意ですね。

自分がすごいやりたいからやるというプロジェクトも良いなと思いますが、自分をやらざるを得ない環境に追い込んでしっかりやった今回のプロジェクトも、すごくいいなと感じました。

あと事前の公約とかが無かったら、多分クラウドファンディングやろうと思っていないと思うんです。

そういう先の読めないというか、まさかこんなことになるなんて！
というところを乗りこなして成功させたところですかね。
すべてを意図的に設計できたら、すごいなっていうのは、プロジェクト見てて思うところです。

 

【夏野】意図的に設計というと？

【北山氏】
たとえば、バーチャルユーチューバーのプロジェクト「鳩羽つぐ 夏休み (30分映像)」ですね。

CAMPFIRE：「鳩羽つぐ 夏休み (30分映像)」

プロジェクトページに書かれた説明も少なく、一般的なクラウドファンディングプロジェクトとしては審査を通せないよ、という感じだったんですけど、いざ公開したら2,000万集まったのです。

要因はいくつがあって、この「鳩羽つぐ」のプロジェクトに至る前に、いかにも不穏な映像を数本投稿していたんです。
さらにリターンは、VHS やカセットテープなんですけど、今の時代、再生機器もあまりないですし、そのようなリターン品に送られても…、という感じじゃないですか。

でもそこを乗り越える動機を作っていたのは、「つぐちゃんの安否が気になる」みたいな感情なんです。
そういう作り込みをしっかりして、クラウドファンディングに出したわけです。

 

【夏野】いわゆる3Ｄのアニメ動画なんですよね？

【北山氏】

そうですね。実際の背景のようなところに3Ｄの少女が出てくるので、いろいろな憶測が飛んだんですよ。住所は西荻窪という設定ですが、実際、西荻窪の駅名はあっても地名は残っていないんです。

 

【夏野】すごいとこつきますね。

【北山氏】

ネタで誰かが、「当時西荻窪であった小学生の女の子の事件がモチーフになってるよ」って言うと、みんなそれを信じちゃうみたいな。みんながどんどん話を膨らませてすごい憶測を呼んでいました。

 

【夏野】こういうのもアリなんですか？

【北山氏】

アリですね。海外だとクラウドファンディングはキャンペーンと言ったりするので、特定の取り組みがあって、そのプロモーションのためにクラウドファンディングを使ってもらうのもアリです。

人をどう巻き込むかは、単純に「ものを買ってください」以外にも、バリエーションがあると思っていて。
そこをどんだけ綿密に練ってやったのかはプロジェクトページを見ただけでは分からないんですけど、「鳩羽つぐ 夏休み (30分映像)」は本当にうまいプロジェクトだなと思います。

みんなページの見栄えとかに意識が向くんですけど、ページの見栄えじゃないですよね。

プロジェクトやる前後の文脈というか、設定を大事にした点というか。
すごく緻密に作ってあったので、そこが良かったのでしょう。

あと、このプロジェクトが盛り上がってくると、初めてつぐの存在を知った人も「なんかこれやばくない？」みたいな話になってさらに盛り上がって、バーチャルなんだけど、ザワっとする不穏な感じが人を惹きつけたようです。

 

【夏野】この手法って、ビジネス系にも応用できそうじゃそうじゃないですか？

【北山氏】

そうなんですよ。クラウドファンディングそのものをどうやるか以前のところをしっかり設計することが必要です。

それこそVTuberが流行ってるからやるみたいなのは、たくさんあります。
やるからには手法をただなぞるだけじゃなくそれなりにちゃんと作り込む必要があります。

ただ、そこまで難しく考えることもなくて、地域のプロジェクトに置き換えてみると、やっぱり「そこに至った理由」みないなものが大事だと思うんです。
クラウドファンディングに至るまでに、多分何か事前に始めてて、でもお金だったり認知だったりに困って、クラウドファンディングやると思うんです。

なので、その前後の言ってしまえば「なぜ、うまくいかなかったのか」や、その人が「うまくいってないと思う理由は何か」を聞いてクラウドファンディングをやるんだったらこうやりましょうと話しがしたいですね。
